Lange and Audrey Gallagher Combine to Deliver a New Classic with Flawless Perfection

Rarely am I left speechless after a first listen to any song, but that’s exactly what happened after I heard Our Way Home, the newest track from DJ/producer Lange and singer/songwriter superstar Audrey Gallagher.  Our Way Home is a mile-a-minute, break-all-the-molds tour de force of trance music. The track combines super-heated progressive beats, infectious melodic undertones and Audrey’s captivating vocals perfectly to deliver a track with the momentum of a speeding Ferrari racecar. Everything about Our Way Home will leave you breathless. Lange’s mixing of progressive over-the-top bold bass beats with smoothly cool melodic synths and a dizzying dropdown that makes a real statement is sheer production genius. And what more can be said about Audrey Gallagher?  After giving us trance classics year after year like “Big Sky”, “Hold On To Me”, “This Night” and “Bring Back the Sun” she delivers what is probably the best vocal performance of her career. Few vocal talents today would be able to keep pace and match up with the power of Our Way Home. But the punching bass and rising momentum of Our Way Home doesn’t even come close to intimidating Audrey Gallagher.  Her incredible vocal range and beautifully lilting angelic vocal delivery is perfectly forceful, but not overpowering. In fact, I can’t think of any other song in her repertoire where her voice and the music have been so perfectly matched. With all-around perfection, Our Way Home is so wonderfully fresh and dynamic, I believe it defines exactly what I mean when I say “future trance.” Under my skin and in my head, I can’t get enough of this one. There’s no doubt that this one’s destined to be an instant club classic.   Now my only question is when can we get your greatest hits collection, Audrey?!

A Magical Night From Aly & Fila In San Francisco

Somehow, you just know it's going to be an amazing night at the club, even before you step foot out of your home. That's exactly how I felt last night before heading into San Francisco to see Aly & Fila.  The DJ/producers, who can lay claim to the title, "The Pride of Egypt", had chosen Ruby Skye in San Francisco to host the celebration of the release of their new compilation album, Future Sound Of Egypt, Volume 2. Owing to that fact and that I had missed the great Egyptian duo the last time they came to our city, being in the club this time was imperative. As I awaited the start of the set, I reflected on Future Sound of Egypt Volume 2, which I had listened to three times earlier in the day. I tried to imagine how Aly & Fila would go about celebrating the scope of this awesomely exceptional album (see my review of FSOE Vol. 2 in my next blog post). The answer was delivered in an over three hour set which included new mixes, surprises (DJ Tiesto's As The Rush Comes) and odes to such classics as Armin van Buuren's "Shivers" and Above and Beyond's "Good For Me". Fila, who was at the controls, took us on a massive journey through trance history all the while pointing to the future as he weaved uplifting, progressive and vocal trance tracks throughout the night . The backdrop of revolving and morphing scenes of pyramids, Egyptian kings and queens, cobras, falcons, griffins, ancient Egyptian monuments and boats on the River Nile gave the feeling of being transported across time and space. It was more than a night of interesting travelogue video however. It was a night of non-stop, back and forth pure trance love. Fila's enthusiasm and love for what he does overflowed from the deck only to be matched by the outpouring of enthusiasm being tossed back from the floor by the clubbers at his feet. The number of massive moments were many, but included the signature anthem "We Control The Sunlight" in which the beautiful voice of Jwaydan floated across the crowd only to explode in a blaze of sound and lights. Other memorable highlights included an awesome extended remix of Apple One's "Rebirth" and an amazing drop of Orjan Nilsen's "Legions."  Above all though was Fila's ability to mix classic hits such as  Delerium's "Silence" with the massive new Gareth Emery track "Concrete Angel" so seamlessly that it all sounded fresh and new. It was pure brilliance that made sure the energy of the night never slowed. The exceptional lighting and sound system at Ruby Skye, now firmly entrenched as the #1 EDM venue in San Francisco, made for the perfect party atmosphere. In short, Aly & Fila got everything a launch party for a great album should be - an enthusiastic crowd and an awesome club, both ready to go the distance. In return, they took us on a beautifully massive magic carpet ride through the past, present and future of trance; and made it a night to remember for a long time to come.

A Solid, Forward Driving Safari from Ost & Meyer

There are times that I just want to get out on the dance floor, close my eyes and move to a solid, unrelenting beat punctuated by well-produced synth melodies. I call these kind of tracks “trance that moves me” simply because the sound of the music is so smooth that it goes right to my head and into my feet. Such is Safari (Original Mix)the latest track from Ost & Meyer. The driving bass-line layered with uplifting melodic notes goes for the kill (pun intended) right from the start. The solid bass beat forms an unrelenting foundation for perfectly timed warm, seductive melodic interludes that flow into momentum-building synth pulses. In the best uplifting trance style, Ost & Meyer send you up, level you off, spin you around a bit and then punch you up again, all the while making sure the journey is focused and rewarding. Just as the track's title implies, Safari (Original Mix) gives you the chance to move out, experience everything around you and keep on moving through. A very solid and satisfying track, Safari (Original Mix) is perfect for anyone who wants to "move" with grace and style on the club floor.

Gareth Emery Produces a Real Masterpiece with Concrete Angel

Let’s face it; trance “purists” who feel that melodic and uplifting trance is being crushed by the progressive/house end of the genre may never acknowledge the likes of Mat Zo and Gareth Emery as they seek to evolve the genre into the future. So be it and to each their own. But how can anyone debate real genius when it starts you right in the face?   Take Gareth Emery for example. Following his massive success the progressive/house hit “Tokyo” and last year’s hear-it-everywhere, “Mansion” Emery now drops “Concrete Angel (Original Mix).” The track starts off with a driving bass-line that melds into seductive vocals by Christina Novellli and slowly builds in melodic energy. The energy of the melodic notes lift Ms. Novelli’s beautiful voice like a gentle wind to a plateau of sound that envelops you ever so firmly and serves to perfectly support the lyrics, “Let me breath you in, and breath the words in your mouth, Inside your shivering, the silence shouts so loud. I just want to, I just want to stay around, and while my heart beats I promise I won't let you down. If I'm somewhere else it doesn't mean that I don't see, That you don't trust yourself, that's why you don't trust me, It makes me crazy, when you're crazy, you don't speak, You think you know me, but what you know is just skin deep…” At 2:33 in, melodic waves give way to the building bass beat supporting the next layers of Ms. Novelli’s beautiful vocals. This rising interplay between driving bass, melodic waves and vocal textures wrap around each other like beautiful dancers swirling in chiffon clouds ending with break and drop that is pure Gareth Emery. Put simply, the over seven minute ride that Emery and Novelli take us on with Concrete Angel (Original Mix) is a masterpiece of how “pure” melodic trance and progressive trance can work together. The track is a beautifully crafted example of how to seamlessly bring both energy and emotion to the dance floor. Five stars to Gareth Emery for his dedication to the future of the genre! Needless to say, I am really looking forward to hearing this track drop tonight when Gareth Emery comes to Ruby Skye in San Francisco.

Again! Dash Berlin + Jonathan Mendelsohn = Beautiful Music

At this point, I’m thinking what else can Dash Berlin accomplish to prove his rightful place on top of the list of trance DJ’s? After dropping a solid string of #1 trance hits including Waiting and Disarm Yourself featuring the phenomenal Emma Hewitt followed by Better Half of Me featuring the powerfully emotional vocals of Jonathan Mendelsohn, Dash Berlin now delivers a trance tour de force with World Falls Apart. World Falls Apart grabs you from the first beats with a speedy take-off that jumps right into grittier, but no less emotional vocals once again provided by the talented Jonathan Mendelsohn. From that point onward, you are taken on an up and down, back and forth thrill ride that leaves you breathless. Interplaying and seductive uplifting melodies rise up from underneath the bass beats at just the right moments, giving Mendelsohn’s beautiful vocals a chance to shine and you a chance to catch a breath before the momentum builds back in to spin you around and around in joyous delirium. Make no mistake; this is one track that grabs you firmly and doesn’t let go from beginning to end. World Falls Apart is a powerful, spring-loaded trampoline of a song that forces you to confidently jump higher and higher off the dance floor with every successive beat. I guarantee, you’ll be surprised at how high you can jump and will want to just keep on jumping.

Currently #19 on the Beatport Trance Top 100 Chart

Vast Vision Storms Into 2012 With Black Shores

2012 is starting off amazingly great! Now here comes one move-it-out track from the boys of Vast Vision. A year since after they delivered 'Ambrosia' to us on the Future Sound Of Egypt label, Vast Vision gives us Black Shores (Original Mix). The time was obviously well spent and the wait was worth it! A refined, sweeping, bold and beautiful piece of music, Black Shores (Original Mix) is the kind of trance that instantly hooks you in. The signature progressive / uplifting trance sound of Roland Andriese and Stijn Coppietersis is all there, combined with perfectly set-in bass to create a track that will have you up and dancing around like it had me doing in my studio. In fact, I just could not stop playing this one. Black Shores bursts out of the gate with a bass-line like a gang of horses out of the starting gate down a racetrack. This drive of energy soon allows a beautiful electronic undertone to gently dissolve into the mix as melodic notes rise to sweep you up. The momentum builds as the combined sound gains energy, making it feel as if you are on a ride through the clouds. The melodic sound gains altitude to a point where the energetic bass beats join back in for a totally amazing ride to heaven. Black Shores (OriginalMix) is a richly textured, boldly driven, and perfectly layered piece of sweeping music from Vast Vision. I really want to hear this one in the club.

Out now on Beatport, available on other channels January 23rd.

Looking Back Has Andy Tau Looking Ahead

The New Year is off to a blast of a start with several impressive new tracks hitting the club floors. One of the best is Andy Tau’s bold track Looking Back, which is given an even stronger remix treatment by Nhato. Looking Back (Nhato Remix) delivers right out of the gate with a driving bass-line that twists with ascending and descending waves of melody and then punches out a bass bomb that drops on you just 35 seconds in. From that point on, Looking Back (Nhato Remix) does just the opposite of what the title implies. There’s no looking back as competing bass beat waves dissolve into soft melodic piano notes. But don’t be fooled, the melodic interlude quickly and assuredly rises up to beckon the bass back onto the stage. Without ever losing momentum, bass and piano come together to build into an explosion of sound that is sure to have every club floor shaking. Looking Back (Nhato Remix) drives its point home without ever looking back.  A surefire winner from Andy Tau, now out on Infrasonic.

One Amazing, Blow-The-Roof-Off Night – Dash Berlin at Ruby Skye

OK, I’ll admit it, I love Dash Berlin. When I first saw him live in March of this year, I tweeted out that Dash Berlin “was the future of trance.” I saw him play live again in October at the Lovevolution Afterparty in Oakland where he whipped a crowd of over 20,000 into full frenzy. I voted Dash Berlin as #1 in the world in the DJMag Top 100 poll (where he rose to #8 overall!) and then proclaimed him “amazing and hands-down the most energetic DJ in the genre.” When I prepared to see him live at Ruby Skye in San Francisco on December 21, I thought how could this guy top his previous performances? The answer came that night. As I stood in the mezzanine of the packed-to-the-doors club, the lights went down and the signature intro started, I realized this was going to be an amazing night. I have seen the “greats” of trance live before – Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Above and Beyond – but only one DJ has ever been able to hold a club crowd in his grasp and literally control them from start to finish. That DJ is Dash Berlin. Seeing Dash Berlin live this time went far beyond his previous awesome performances. On this night, Dash Berlin took us on a ride - a ride like no other. The closest analogy I can give is that it was like riding the one, great thrill ride at the amusement park that you just never want to get off of. His mixes, including the chart-topping “Disarm Yourself”, the emotional “Better Half Of Me”, the beautiful “This Night” and the mesmerizing “Sanctuary” blew the roof and walls off of the club. Adding in such new “classics” like DJ Shogun’s “Lotus” and Cosmic Gate’s “Be Your Sound” brought a new, fresh future-forward vibe to the dance floor. By turning down the vocals at points and allowing the crowd to sing-in is not only brilliant, but connects each of us to him and the music itself. For two solid hours, I and everyone else within the walls of Ruby Skye were in synch with every move, every note, every word of what Dash Berlin played – not just “to” us, but “with” us. It is a connection with a DJ that is not only rare, but unique in the realm of trance music today. So, I’ll say it again…Dash Berlin IS the future of trance. If you want to experience more than just hot music in a club, more than a fun night on the dance floor, make seeing Dash Berlin a priority. It is not just an event, it is a mind-blowing, beautiful and memorable journey that you will feel and relate back to for the rest of your life.

Shogun Delivers an Explosive Remix of Better Half of Me

It goes without saying that the previously released mixes of Dash Berlin’s Better Half of Me are amazing - they are still topping the charts across the globe. But waiting has it's rewards. DJ/producer Shogun has now delivered a remix that can only be termed as explosive, heart-thumping and full of raw energy. Dash Berlin feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn - Better Half of Me (Shogun Remix), off of the new Dash Berlin feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn Better Half of Me, The Remixes, Part 2, drives the sound straight to the dance floor with pounding bass beats that unabashedly mix into and play off of Jonathan Mendelsohn’s beautiful vocals from end to end. The level of energy Shogun gives the track is so totally powerful – you can feel the club floor pulsating even sitting in your chair at home – there is enough electric here to light up all of L.A.! In mid-track, swirling strings rise above melodic waves, beautifully dancing around the vocals ending with an incredible return of bass-beat that grabs you with the signature power-sound Shogun has made his own. If you were waiting for a knock-the-walls-down remix of Better Half of Me to dance to, then this one is it. There is no doubt Dash Berlin will be spinning this remix in the clubs and blowing the walls down across the western U.S. this week. I’m hoping the energy of this remix will be unleased tomorrow and Thursday nights when I see Dash Berlin LIVE in San Francisco and Costa Mesa. – I'll be sure to let you know what it felt like on Friday – right here on my Future Of Trance blog!

Trance Enjoyed A Strong, Evolving Year In 2011 – The Future Of Trance Top 25 Tracks of 2011

With global music revenues predicted to rise by 7% this year (source: Gartner) it would seem wholly appropriate to put aside all of the talk about the fading of trance music as a major musical genre around the world. In fact, the year 2011 saw trance push its global momentum with increasing speed in such locales as the United States and South America. This is not to say that the trance music of 2011 is anything like that of a couple of years ago. In fact, today’s trance continues to evolve with many more producers mixing in house beats and still others embracing vocal trance as a way to get the clubbers out on the dance floor. Does this mean that trance as we once knew it is becoming too mainstream?  Some may say yes, pointing to the rise in popularity of the likes of David Guetta, but I for one would put forth that trance is in a natural evolution just like any other musical genre. I would further add that this is a good evolution. Trance music has become more accessible and now reaches a broader audience which can only help sales and strengthen the genre’s foundation into the future. So now, let’s talk about this past year in trance!

Would anyone deny that 2011 was Dash Berlin’s year?  The dutch DJ/producer rocketed up seven notches in the DJMag Top 100 DJ chart to an impressive #8. With a solid schedule of touring and instantly recognizable tracks like “Disarm Yourself” and “Better Half of Me”, Dash Berlin used 2011 to build his base across the globe. When I first saw Dash Berlin early in 2011 in San Francisco, I immediately tweeted, “I have seen the future of trance, and it is Dash Berlin.” In my Future Of Trance Top 25 for 2011, Dash Berlin deservedly takes spots #1 and #3.

And what a year it has been for the beautiful Australian vocalist Emma Hewitt! At just about every weekly turn, her wonderful voice was being featured on a new track.  Working with the likes of Dash Berlin and Cosmic Gate, Ms. Hewitt has risen to global super stardom in the genre.  Her vocals in Dash Berlin’s Disarm Yourself make it arguably one of the best vocal trance tracks since John O’Callaghan and Audrey Gallagher gave us the classic Big Sky. With the continued popularity in vocal trance and with every top DJ looking to have her work with them, there can be no doubt that we’ll see even more of Emma Hewitt in 2012.

2011 also saw strong, even great, efforts from rising star DJ/producers Cosmic Gate (which produced my #1 trance album of the year in Wake Your Mind), Aly & Fila, Blake Jarrell and Shogun.  Core trance DJ’s such as Gareth Emery, John O’Callaghan and Armin van Buuren also gave us solid, often surprisingly evolutionary tracks to move to on the dance floor. All of which made attempting to select just 25 top trance tracks quite a challenge. Certainly not everyone will agree with my choices as listed – that’s expected. Assuredly, my list below contains some of what you will expect, but I’m betting some of my selections may surprise you as well. Take for instance my choice of Bryan Kearney with Ong Namo (Neptune Project’s In Search of the Mayans Remix) at #7. I found Neptune Project’s remix to be an effective mix of “old” style melodic trance and future-forward progressive overtones with sensual vocals driving the tune right to your heart. It’s just the type of trance mix that is becoming the foundation for the future of the genre. Another surprise may be my choice of Tristan D’s intensely energetic Interstate 5 (Original Mix) . From the first beats to the explosive end, you feel like you have a rocket strapped on your back. If you’ve never driven on Interstate 5 (and I have many times) one listen to this track will let you know exactly what it is like! Love the track big time!

I now invite you to take a look at my Future Of Trance Top 25 of 2011. Then take a listen to the tracks - if you haven’t heard them before. Who knows, you may come across something that surprises you and curiously invites you to dig just a bit deeper into this amazingly beautiful, technically exceptional music of today and tomorrow. Trance IS the future and it’s here NOW!

Shogun Keeps Up the Momentum with Space Odyssey (Original Mix) and Lotus (Original Mix)

Futuristic-focused trance/progressive producer Shogun spins off a pair of real melodic trance gems with Space Odyssey (Original Mix) and Lotus (Original Mix).
SpaceOdyssey (Original Mix) is one of those trace tracks that not only you can’t ignore, but you want to hear more of. From the slow melodic entry complete with voice-over and countdown, through a paced build up and increasing bass, to what can only be called the “take-off point”, Shogun keeps you captivated from the very start. Then the real ride begins. Wavering melodies play back and forth with pounding bass that can only be described as a real interstellar journey! This is one track that really comes forth as its title describes!
First revealed as part of Armin Van Buuren’s Universal Religion Chapter 5,  Lotus (Original Mix) is one beautiful track.  I have always enjoyed the warm, future-forward sounds produced by Shogun and have marveled in seeing his sound grow more and more unique with every new release.  With Lotus, Shogun’s redefining of melodic trance in his own style has reached a new milestone. Starting with a pounding bass-line and building into the signature Shogun melodic style, a perfect vibe rides us on an easy-to-feel wave that slowly builds with energy. It is almost as if you can see the lotus bloom rising out of the water with a determined air about what it is going to accomplish. Then, just as you expect a major explosion, Shogun gives us the opposite. A gentle rising melody with soft vocals tell us to “breathe…” and watch the lotus "rise and revive."  That's exactly just what happens. The melody rises up and the lotus rises with you into a powerful and thrilling bloom of bass and melodies. This is one amazingly beautiful track with all of the rich feel and sensations that Shogun has become known for.

If you want to know what it means to “dream the trance dream” then Space Odyssey (Original Mix) and Lotus (Original Mix) will let you know exactly what it is! This is what I mean when I say "this is the future of trance!"  I know I’ll be listening and dreaming to this pair of tracks a lot over the coming weeks!

Cosmic Gate Gives Us An Instant Classic

It is a rare occurrence that an album from any artist in any genre can be said to be so exceptionally conceived, so end-to-end complete and so well produced that it is considered an “instant classic”, but such it is with Cosmic Gate’s recent release Wake Your Mind. Not since Armin Van Buuren’s Imagine, has one artist (or in this case a pair of artists) produced a trance classic in which every track can stand on its own yet be played together next to every other track with amazing ease and nonstop flow. Nic and Bossi’s pairing of some of the best vocal talents in trance today, including Emma Hewitt, Alana Aldea and Cathy Burton with perfectly fitting melodies and flowing rhythmic vibes pushes this effort to the very top of the list as best trance album of 2011. Ms. Hewitt’s amazing and seductive voice gives the chart-topping “Be Your Sound” raw emotion and depth like nothing we’ve seen since Audrey Gallagher’s “This Night”. The perfect paced “Never Apart” featuring the beautiful voice of Alana Aldea will not only give you goose bumps, but probably have you shedding a tear or two as you close your eyes and let the melodic riffs carry you to that wonderful place you cherish. On “Calm Down”, the boys pair Ms. Hewitt with the perfect trance beat to once again showcase the incredible vocal range and depth of musical passion that has catapulted her to trance superstardom over the past year. “Drifting Away”, featuring the lovely vocal talents of Cathy Burton is simply melodic-vocal trance honed to perfection. The album’s title track, “Wake Your Mind” supported by the Cary Brothers vocals brings with it an irresistible dance/rock beat that rises with an energy that ultimately will explode the roof off of any club. In summary, if you had been hoping for a totally complete and satisfying trance album that will leave you wanting more, then Wake Your Mind is the one. There's no doubt, this effort shows that the future of trance is very much alive and growing.

For me personally, I can’t wait to hear many of the tracks played live when I see Cosmic Gate on New Year’s Eve at Countdown: NorCal's NYE Massive in Pleasanton, California – just 20 miles from my home!  Who knows, maybe I’ll even get the chance to thank Nic and Bossi in person for giving us a new instant classic!

Exostate Sends Us A Driven And Emotional Effort In Without Warning

The collaboration between Bissen and singer/songwriter Jeza that is Exostate has produced an exceptional new effort called Without Warning, one to which my personal favorite remixer Suncatcher has added even more depth of melodic emotion. The track begins with a soft melodic piano overture which seductively leads into Jeza's beautifully sensual vocals. As if without warning, a rising bass-line creeps in to the mix, ultimately driving the beat to the floor, pulling you up off of your seat. The bass beat and piano melody play off each other as the energy of the track reaches a massive scale, ensuring full-on trance emotion that will lift you up and away. Beautiful, emotional and driven to the core of your heart, look for Exostate’s Without Warning (Suncatcher Remix) to be widely played as a new essential for the clubs.

Kyau And Albert’s Once In A Life Is Alive With Tritonal’s Remix

Listen to the Tritonal remix of Kyau and Albert’s latest, Once In A Life (Tritional Remix) and you get the feeling that something big is about to happen. The good news is that what you are feeling would be correct.  The track which is shooting up the charts and getting top airplay by the likes of Above and Beyond on TATW starts out with a uniquely curious snapping beat and then quickly ramps into a driving bassline that will get you and everyone else on the dance floor moving. Your heart beats faster and faster until swirling melodies morph into vocals fading back and forth like waves on the beach. But these are not crashing waves, but soothing waves that beckon you deeper into the sound of trance at its best. Pulsating waves of energy seductively carry you higher and higher on a ride that leaves you breathless but oh so alive. This one’s going to generate a lot of life in the clubs and all you need to do is jump in and go along for the great ride.

Shogun Remix Brings John O'Callaghan's Perfection Home

Irish superstar DJ John O’Callaghan’s latest album “Unfold” contains a myriad of sensational tracks, including “Perfection”, but now producer Shogun has pulled together what I think will be the definitive remix of the track. The underlying warmth of Perfection (Shogun Remix) is highlighted with just the right amount of upbeat in the bassline. Swirling melodic up-tones wrap around the vocals of Cathy Burton like a velvet glove on a beautiful hand. All the while, you are being transported – in classic O’Callaghan style- gently upward to a nicely floating break-point, momentum building, energy rising until BAMMMM!, the gates open and it’s off to high-drive on the dance floor. Yes, John O’Callaghan and Shogun have given us a little bit of perfection for us to dance to over this coming winter in the clubs. Thank you!!

Perfection (Shogun Remix) lands at #18 on the Beatport Trance Top 100 this week.

Abstract Vision and Elite Electronics’ Latest, Never Forget, Hits the Mark All Around

The newest release from the duo Abstract Vision and Elite Electronic, Never Forget is not only a great effort, but with three well-done and independent sounding remixes in addition to the Original Mix, there’s  a remix for just about everyone. My personal fav is the Store N Forward Remix. This is the mix for the clubs. The hard-driving bass sound zip-morphs into a nicely melodic flow that is both warming and energetic. The energy builds slowly to several got-to-get-you-moving dance plateaus before rising to a crescendo that just about leaves you breathless, only to slowly drop you down and back up again. The Store N Forward Remix has just the right amount of ups and downs coupled with an amazingly beautiful trance melodic sound to bring the crowds at the club to their feet and still leave them some energy to spare. I predict this one will be very big for Abstract Vision and Elite Electronic.

Explosive New Track From Jorn van Deynhoven!

The producer that brought you the definitive mix of DJ RAM’s “RAMsterdam” is back with a hard-hitting and explosive new track, Spotlight (Original Mix). This track which appears on Armin Van Buuren’s Universal Religion Chapter 5 album starts out with hard-hitting bass and never stops satisfying from there. A swirling build-up plateaus with almost a sonic boom that melts into a warm melodic river of sound that carries you over the clouds that gradually turns into pulses of pure trance energy. In classic Jorn van Deynhoven style, Spotlight takes you out to the limits and back over and over, finally ending where you began. It’s a journey that is sure to leave you in the spotlight on the dance floor. Destined to be a trance hit, Spotlight (Original Mix) debuts at #8 on the Beatport Trance Top 100 Chart this week.

This Track Really Does Rise Like A Phoenix From The Flames!

The new track Phoenix From The Flames (Club Mix) released recently by Boom Jinx featuring Justine Suissa on the Anjunabeats label is made to move the dance floor. First, it’s great to once again have Justine Suissa back on a track that highlights her exceptional vocal range. Her soprano treatment just works perfectly here, especially on the refrain “now you’re coming back home, coming home to me….” The uplifting beat and building momentum throughout the track serves as just the right foundation of trance energy that will play well on the dance floor. There’s no doubt that this one is a winner for Boom Jinx. I think we can look for many remixes of this one. Expect a lot of play at the clubs - so go and dance your heart away like a phoenix from the flames!

Currently #7 on the Beatport Top 100 Trance Track List!

Welcome to the Future Of Trance!

First, welcome to my new blog - dedicated to sharing my perspectives on what I think is the best in new trance music. I'll be sharing my views periodically (hopefully at least a couple times each week) with you and hope you'll submit your comments back. I'd certainly welcome that and so would the DJ's and artists who put their all into the music that I love with a passion.

As a matter of introduction, I'm just a regular guy living in Northern California. I "discovered" trance music about seven years ago via the music of Paul Van Dyk. Needless to say, I was hooked. Since then, I have gotten deeper into the scene. In fact, about 80% of the music I listen to is trance and 70% of my large iTunes library consists of trance tracks from many of the top trance DJ's today. I catch my fav DJ's whenever I can here in San Francisco and have seen Armin Van Buuren, Dash Berlin, John O'Callaghan, Markus Schultz, Blake Jarrell, Gareth Emery, Filo & Peri and Paul Van Dyk in 2011 alone. Add to these, I've had the privilege of meeting Giuseppe Ottaviani in person and am friends with the amazing Audrey Gallagher. With all of that under my belt and more to come, I think I'm somewhat qualified to air my views publicly.

I hope you'll find what I have to say informative, interesting and occasionally provocative. I also hope you'll become a follower and subscribe to my new FUTURE OF TRANCE blog! Thanks for participating.

To start things off, here's my favorite trance vocal track and video of 2011: "Disarm Yourself" by Dash Berlin feat. Emma Hewitt > http://dashberlinworld.com/video/dash-berlin-feat-emma-hewitt-disarm-yourself-official-music-vid-1

Here's what I said when the video was released and my view remains the same today:
One of the best trance videos I've seen in a long time for a deceivingly powerful song. By shooting in black and white and alternating the fast-paced exterior scenes with Ms. Hewitt's slow-motion close-ups, the video seductively and emotionally draws you in while visually driving home the song's message. The way the club scenes are shot brilliantly adds to the energy of the song and underscores what trance is all about. Simply, one awesome production!

This track and then seeing Dash Berlin live is what compelled me to enthusiastically state, "Dash Berlin IS the future of trance."

Comments, please!
